Video: Ganesh Rao - Empyrean

This is the video by Ganesh Rao for his track Empyrean.

"Now that Empyrean is done, I'm working on a music video album. There will be about 4-5 tracks on it. Total length of about 30-40 minutes. Empyrean will be one of piece on the album. This album - "Forbidden Circle" will be based on the theme surreal-eerie-beautiful and it will be ready sometime in mid 2012. Also quite a few awesome guitarists and musicians have agreed to do some guest work on the album. Very excited. More coming soon."

You can download the track here and be informed for his new tracks in his blog.

Formed in late 2010, Cassiopeia has aimed to forge a new sound in the shoegaze and space rock genres. Working out of Phoenix, Arizona, Cassiopeia has taken the DIY attitude and applied it to all aspects of their work. Within one month of forming, their debut demo EP was written, produced, engineered, and mixed by the band themselves and 50 hand made copies, also by the band, were released during their first show at local Phoenix record store and downtown hot spot, Revolver Records. While continuing to play shows all around the Phoenix area in the last 4 months, the buzz is beginning to grow and a small, southwest tour is set to take place in early June 2011. Taking various influences from all four members, the album was well received among local and international listeners. After posting songs online, their fan base grew to as far away as Japan and France and is steadily growing.

Cassiopeia is: John - guitars // Nathan - guitars // Chris - keys/samples // Nick - drums

Logreybeam (aka Gabriel Morley) re-emerges from his studio in Los Angeles after years of collecting instruments, obscure noise gadgets and designing custom effects. He applies years of electronic music production and training from Cal Arts Academy (BA in Music Composition) to his latest projects, which range from ambient layers under electronically eroded recordings to melancholic multi-tracked instrumentals.

Perhaps is a 37 minute album lost in time. Between it's lonesome pianos and wailing accordions, one can hear the cynicism of the past looming on us. It is a romantic orchestration to an old, familiar, forgotten movie. A bizarre yet sweet perfume.

All songs written, performed, and recorded by Gabriel Morley
except ' My Own Home ' written by Robert and Richard Sherman, additional vocals on ' Melody Pines ' by Janice Marder, vocals on ' This Torment And This Thought' by Julien Neto.

It is mastered by Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities.

Boris is a Japanese experimental rock band, known for often combining and switching between different music genres including drone metal, sludge metal, noise rock, psychedelic rock, ambient and pop. As of 2008, personnel are drummer-vocalist Atsuo, bassist-guitarist-vocalist Takeshi, and guitarist-vocalist Wata.
Boris takes its name from a song on the Melvins' Bullhead album.

Iconoclast Japanese trio Boris are widely known for their ability to breach styles and stretch sonic boundaries of all that is heavy, psychedelic, droning and downright cathartic. But, Attention Please is more like a complete redefining of their potential in several ways. First and foremost, it is the first album on which all vocals are sung by lead guitarist, Wata. While she has previously sung on a couple of songs for singles and her own solo recordings, the entire 10-song album features her intimate, multifaceted vocal style. Secondly, the songs on Attention Please have a sultry, intoxicating catchiness to them. It’s melodic without sounding pop. It’s psychedelic without sounding dated. It’s heavy without relying on barre chord riffs.

Cave In is an alternative/metalcore/Post-Hardcore band that formed in 1995, in Methuen, Massachusetts.

The group’s early work on Hydra Head Records was more extreme and chaotic in the style of bands like Converge and The Dillinger Escape Plan, but their later output appears to be influenced by a wider range of styles. Their 2003 album Antenna (released on RCA Records) has had more success than previous albums and enabled the band to play the second stage on the 2003 Lollapalooza tour. However, playing Lollapalooza didn’t garner the band enough financial success to prevent them from being dropped from RCA Records’ roster. Although the albums before Jupiter had alluded to melodic yearnings within the group, the throat injuries of lead vocalist Stephen Brodsky clinched the band’s decision to move forward with the group’s present, more euphonious sound and abandon their metalcore leanings.

Most of Cave In’s recent material can be categorized as space rock, using themes centering around space. Examples of this are the songs Jupiter and New Moon, album names Jupiter and Antenna, and the band’s singular brand of resonating ambient “spacey” guitar effects they incorporate into their songs.

It’s been six years since their last full-length and though this, Cave In’s fifth studio album, is more ‘Perfect Pitch Black’ than the rest of their discography, it’s also completely different to anything the band have ever released. When time is on a band’s side marvellous things can happen, and ‘White Silence’ is proof of that. Two years in the making, this is by far the most experimental and diverse record Cave In have made to date. The riffs and volume are still present but then there’s the layering (‘Iron Decibels’), the acoustic closer ‘Reanimation’ and the static noise ‘White Silence’. This is a grower not a shower but persevere because ‘White Silence’ has been worth the wait.

Apocalyptic metal band A Storm Of Light have completed work on their new album, entitled “As The Valley Of Death Becomes Us, Our Silver Memories Fade.”

Formed by multi-faced artist/musician Josh Graham (Neurosis, ex-Red Sparowes/Battle Of Mice), A Storm Of Light have become a whole new musical entity on its own merits, taking singer/guitarist Graham’s experiences from his previous musical repertoire and finding its own unique voice through the vessel known as A Storm Of Light.

With their third album at hand, not only is “As The Valley Of Death…” A Storm Of Light’s heaviest and most dynamic release to date, but it is also A Storm Of Light’s most song-oriented and most musically inclined release to date. While still maintaining certain elements referenced from their previous two releases, elements which ranged from moments of sludge/doom metal, ambient experimental, classic industrial, and post-rock and metal respectively, “As The Valley Of Death…” sees the band (rounded out by bassist Domenic Seita, drummer Billy Graves, and Joel Hamilton on synthesizers and production) focusing more on solid traditional song structures and foundations, ones found in genres such as rock (AC/DC), modern-day rock (Queens Of The Stone Age), and ultimately classic traditional metal, most notably the template laid down by Metallica.
And to top it all off, “As The Valley Of Death…” sees a fair share of musician guest appearances likewise. Most notably Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil lending his signature guitar shredding on the tracks ‘Missing’ and ‘Black Wolves’.

Also appearing on “As The Valley Of Death…” are Jarboe (ex-Swans), longtime A Storm Of Light collaborator Nerissa Campbell, Kris Force (Amber Asylum), Matthias Bossi (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/The Book Of Knots), and Carla Kihlstedt (also of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum/The Book Of Knots).

Earthshine’ is the second album from post-rockers Tides From Nebula. Formed in 2008 the band has certainly come a very long way in their short history. The bands debut album 'Aura' was released in March 2009 and immediately received acclaim from media and fans alike. Favourable reviews in media across Europe were received with Polish Weekly 'Przekrój' placing ‘Aura’ in the Top 10 albums of 2009. ‘Teraz Rock’ declared ‘Aura’ as the 4th best debut of 2009.

Tides From Nebula built on the acclaim received for their debut by touring Europe extensively. The band has played with the likes of This Will Destroy You (US), Oceansize (UK), Pure Reason Revolution (UK), Ulver (Nor), Shrinebuilder (US) and many others. In 2009 they toured with fellow post-rockers Caspian (US) and God Is An Astronaut (Irl). During 2010 Tides From Nebula undertook their own headline European Tour taking in Germany, France, Austria, France and Belgium. Later that same year they toured Europe for two months playing a total of 40 shows. This extensive touring has helped the band to gain considerable fan bases in several European countries.

Even though their touring schedule was hectic the band still found time in late 2009 to begin writing new material. The writing of material for ‘Earthshine’ was completed in the first half of 2010. During recording to distance them from everyday life the band took to the remote Polish mountains. This new, inspiring environment proved to be the perfect setting to record, resulting in an album filled with emotional, ambient and energetic soundscapes. ‘Earthshine’ was produced by Zbigniew Preisner, renowned as one of the Worlds foremost composers of music for film and theatre. Zbigniew tracked the band down after hearing them on the radio and offered his experience and expertise. An offer that couldn’t be refused or understated ‘Working with such a great composer brought a new perspective to our compositions, Zbigniew’s invaluable experience has certainly enriched us as musicians’ states Maciej. ‘We put our all in to ‘Earthshine’ our very beings, what we have created makes us very proud’.

800 kilometers apart. The two members of Jeudah, vocalist Jan Jämte (also in Khoma) and instrumentalist Kristian Karlsson (also in pg.lost), hasn't had that many chances to meet in person. Instead the sound of Jeudah has been forged through a long-distance relationship built around countless of hours of talking and experimenting alone in front of microphones and amplifiers. The result is a sound that encompasses vulnerability, heaviness and epic soundscapes - all in a straightforward, melodic manner. - When Kristian sent me a few songs 2008 I immediately felt there was a musical connection. Sometimes you don't have to talk a lot, or spend hour after hour in a rehearsal room. You just hear it and know what to do. So I started to sing, says Jan. It was like opening a dam. During a couple of months 2008 Jeudah had written over 20 songs and in January the following year Jan and Kristian finally met to start the recording of the debut album While We Sleep. With the exception of Thomas Hedlund - also in Khoma, Cult of Luna, Perishers and more - recording the drums the outspoken idea was to do as much as possible themselves, keeping interference to a minimum. Everything - from writing, to recording and producing should stay be in the arms of Jeudah. A year later the album was done and its been scheduled for release in march 2011 through Black Star Foundation.

Kokomo do not sing. Why? Maybe you start thinking about some words that's up to this point have meant the most to you. Maybe you pick those words up and dust them off and hold them up to a hotel room light and take a real good look at them. You poke your finger through their shine and peel off their golden coating, and for the first time you can see the inside of those words, and you are actually not too surprised at all to find that the insides of the words and the words themselves haven't got a goddamn thing to do with each other.

Kokomo is an instrumental rock band from Duisburg, Germany. We like to play as much as possible to present our own massive sound mixed with lovely melodies and indie-music influenced dance parts. We are young and strongly motivated. We try to do everything by ourselves, but we also love to work with our friends all over the world. We know that we didn't reinvent the wheel, but hey we just wanna have a good time and hope that we sometimes could be different and that some people like our stuff. Kokomo was formed in the middle of 2008 by Oliver Ludley, Rene Schwenk, Tobias Stieler and Benamin Helig. Half a Year ago we went on our first tour. After that we played a lot single shows, visited different nations and shared staged with a lot of great bands like God is an Astronaut, This Will Destroy You, Junius, Caspian, Khuda and many more. In November 2009 we self-released our first record called "Matterhorn Bob and the Black Fair" and went on tour through Germany, France and the UK.

In 2011 they released their second album called "If Wolves".
The current lineup of the band is: Tobias, Benjamin, Rene and Oliver

Eric Quach is a guitarist and sound engineer who performs under the name thisquietarmy. He is also the guitarist and founding member of the Montreal-based instrumental rock band Destroyalldreamers (Where Are My Records, Claire’s Echo).

As thisquietarmy, a one-man solo drone/ambient project, Quach composes visual guitar-based soundscapes and experimental music that goes beyond the typical song structure. By exploring his guitar as a tone generator, he furthers the boundaries of his instrument with the use of multiple effect processors & real-time loop-samplers, alternating the guitar signal’s shape and tone, blending textures over textures, merging a wide combination of sounds together and developing the melodies hidden in these walls of sound. Concrete musical ideas are often generated by the re-interpretation, the decomposition and the reconstruction of its own improvisations.

Vessels' explores themes of the sea and man's struggle with this relentless and all pervasive force, the music a perfect means of expressing both the flat calm and the force 9 storm. Eric Quach, the man behind thisquietarmy, is a prolific artist, and 'Vessels' is perhaps his most impactful work to date. 'The Pacific Theater' grips the listener in warm drone before slamming them into the rocks with epic percussion. Album closer 'A Spanish Galleon' takes a more gentle approach with clean guitar and washes of orchestral strings.

With Jesu’s 2007 album Conqueror, frontman Justin Broadrick crafted one of the greatest albums of his career, one that includes Godflesh’s formidable catalog as well as stints in Napalm Death, Head Of David, and sundry side projects. After Conqueror, though, Jesu seemed to run out of steam. The situation was perhaps compounded by the resurrection of Godflesh, not to mention the fact that Conqueror’s staggering mass and intimacy were elements no human could be expected to sustain. But after a handful of EPs and remixes, Jesu is back with Ascension, Conqueror’s proper sequel. It’s better than anyone, let alone Broadrick, had any right to expect. At first, Ascension sounds like a muted, grayscale version of Conqueror’s heavenly pressure and kaleidoscopic apocalypse. But as new elements like acoustic guitar and radically submerged vocals begin to fuse with meteoroid riffs and celestial melody, the album reveals a barren sense of triumph. “Fools” chimes like church bells in a sunken cathedral; “King Of Kings” concludes with a coda sculpted of clouds and drones. Only “Broken Home” conjures Conqueror-era Jesu—the song could be a child of “Weightless & Horizontal” and “Brighteyes”—but even then, its lead-apron heaviness bids a suffocating yet soothing farewell to what came before. No longer struggling to wake from bad dreams, Broadrick has rubbed the sleep from his eyes, dug through the rubble, and planted Ascension on the summit of the ruins of the world.

Maybeshewill are a DIY Instrumental band based in Leicester. Their name is a string of pleasant sounding syllables with no intrinsic meaning. They just like the way it sounds.

Five years ago they recorded a four-track EP in their spare bedroom called ‘Japanese Spy Transcript’, which they pressed up on their own label and sold at shows. It found its way on to the internet, and started cropping up on blogs and forums around the world. A couple of months later it was picked up by Field records in the UK and Xtal records in Japan.
A year later they self-recorded and released their first full-length LP ‘Not For Want Of Trying’, which received widespread critical acclaim. RockSound, Drowned In Sound and Kerrang loved it and Huw Stephens made it his album of the week on Radio 1. Their second full-length arrived just 11 months later, and received a similarly ecstatic reception.

Since then toured as far afield as Japan, Russia and Europe and spent more time in vans around the UK than is probably good for their health. They’ve played Truck Festival, 2000trees, Summer Sundae, Dot To Dot, Brainwash and Off The Cuff and supported everyone from A Silver Mt. Zion and 65daysofstatic to Foals and Johnny Truant.

I Was Here For a Moment, Then I Was Gone is the band's third full-length album.

Phoria combine lush instrumentation, innovative structures and heartfelt climaxes to deliver an intense and often uplifting experience. With comparisons being made to Radiohead and Sigur Rós, it’s easy to see why this Brighton band is gaining so much attention.

Phoria have recently been seen supporting Gorillaz collaborators Little Dragon, Britpop legends Dodgy, and post-rock heavyweights Her Name Is Calla. They have since developed a sensational audio-visual show that they will be touring in 2011.

When playing at Lewisham’s Dirty South, the band caught the attention of producer Dan Lucas. He felt their material and performance was so strong that he offered his time for free, enabling the band to record their debut EP at Anchor Baby studios in the Kent countryside.

In August they released 'Yourself Still’ as a pay-what-you-want download available at phoria.bandcamp.com. They are currently recording their second EP 'Bloodworks', to be released in summer 2011.

Battle Of Britain Memorial continue the tradition of good screamo bands from France.
They were founded in April, 2009 by the will of three friends (Paul, guitars, Ludo, voice, and Vincent, drums) who simply wanted to play some music together.

They scored several songs but their true identity emerged when Rémi (bass) joined the band in October, 2009. Led by mutual influences, from post-rock (Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky…) to screamo (Envy, Impure Wilhelmina…) and post-hardcore (Neurosis, Cult of Luna…), the band established a live set and did its first concert in May, 2010. Battle Of Britain Memorial performed several gigs near Toulouse in 2010, with bands such as Time To Burn, Sélénites, When Icarus Falls and Robot Orchestra.

A debut album was recorded in spring 2010 by Jérémie Mazan (guitarist in Nephalokia) and was out on May 6th 2011. The Aftermath of Your Bright Beings is a concept-album compiling the first songs of the band, which is currently composing new stuff.

Never Come Undone,” the forthcoming split 12” release from Harrisburg, PA singer-songwriter Andew Koji Shiraki and Grand Rapids, MI outfit La Dispute is, above all things, an attempt to transcend musical differences; to show that, where a middle ground exists ethically and emotionally, differences in genre and style are rendered irrelevant, and the greater truth is made apparent.

Birthed from a friendship grounded more in similarities in intention and approach than in musical commonality, “Never Come Undone” seeks to highlight those important similarities by exploring a new congruence musically while discussing separately the same topic.

Featuring two songs from Koji (one original and one cover) and two songs from La Dispute (one original and one re-imagining of a track from 2008‘s Somewhere…), the record reflects heavily on the two artists’ individual experiences with loss and their reaction to it. Through that, the aforementioned emotional and personal similarities shine through, showing that while contrasts may exist between people on the surface, a common thread binds them. At the same time, and perhaps most poignantly, some differences still exist (and differences always will) but neither the record, nor the friendship that inspired it, suffers.

Recorded separately at Drasik Studios in Chicago, IL (Koji) and at StadiumRed in Harlem, NY (La Dispute) “Never Come Undone” shows Koji and La Dispute at the peak of their friendship exploring new personal ground both musically and lyrically.

Album: The Matador - Descent Into The Maelstrom

The Matador have recently independently released our Debut EP 'Descent Into The Maelstrom', which they launched with USA's finest noisecore titans, The Chariot, on Thursday April 21 in Brisbane.

The Matador are a 5 piece progressive post-metal outfit from South East Queensland, Australia. They cast themselves apart from the mainstream of Australian heavy music by creating a sound that ranges from down-tempo, complex ambient arrangements to epic, driving walls of earth-crushingly slabs of sludge. With influences ranging from Cult Of Luna, Isis, Thrice and Deftones to Radiohead, Interpol and The National, The Matador have consciously avoided the cliché of breakdowns, blast beats and death growls that currently saturate the heavy music scene.

Recorded between May - December 2010, Descent Into The Maelstrom is inspired by Edgar Allen Poe in both concept and content, aiming to take the listener to the same dark depths that the influential poet transports his readers to. The EP was released worldwide on April 21, and with this release and plans to tour Australia to promote it, The Matador are aiming to bring something fresh and exciting to the heavy music scene in 2011.

As a live act The Matador are building a strong reputation as a force to be reckoned with, with comments such as:
‘The band utilizes experimental melodic sections which help create a landscape of atmosphere, and serve as progression to a later chaotic climax of sounds…’ - newnoize.blogspot.com
‘Their sound reveals many harmonic layers buried within the post-metal exterior. It’s bleak yet hypnotic, desolate yet enchanting’ - Timeoff Street Press

They are already planning our next recording/release for later in the year with some big ideas in regards to merch tie-ins and promo materials.

Dirge was born in Paris, France in 1994. The original core was formed by Marc T. (guitar, programming) and by ex-Damage Done, Laurent P. (voice, programming). In the industrial-metal genre of bands like Godflesh or Pitchshifter, the music generated by the duet presents harsh guitar riffs, robotic rhythms, aggressive frequenced samples and pitched voices. Three demo-tapes will be released during this first era. After this, Dirge took a more alternative course and started exploring post-metal, while holding on to their industrial sound.

At the same time, Marc T. begins to work on his new solo electronica project Dither. 7 albums and EP’s will be released from 98 to 2004.

After the leaving of Laurent P., bass player David K. and ex-Astral Rising’s guitarist Franck T. join the band. This first change in the line-up coincides with a noisier and less electronic curve; around the torn-downed voice of Marc T., the music goes darker, tortured, dissonant. The first album Down, Last Level is released in 1998.

1999, Alain B. (drums) and ex-Agmen Christophe [Zomb] D. (machines, percussion and voice) strengthen the band. Thus humanized, the music of Dirge goes much more heavy and stifling, guitars becoming the center of gravity of the second album Blight and Vision Below a Faded Sun (released in 2000 on the own band’s label, Blight Records).

Replacing Franck T. and David K., gone to their own projects Dub Wiser and Wide Open Cage, ex-Agmen Christian M. (bass) then guitarist Stéphane L. join Dirge in 2001. Three years later, the third record And Shall the Sky Descend is released and introduces a more hypnotic aspect of the band’s music. If heavy guitars stay in the center of the four long pieces that build ASTSD, the extremely slow-downed tempos, creeping samples, minimal parts, violin, didgeridoo and female vocals of Von Magnet’s Flore Magnet present the result of four years of musical evolution.

From 2004 to 2006, the band gives several concerts (with Unsane, Kill the Thrill, Cult of Luna, Nasum or Zatokrev) then goes back to studio in Switzerland in November 2006 to record its fourth album Wings Of Lead Over Dormant Seas. Released one year later as a double CD set, it features Kill The Thrill’s singer Nicolas Dick on two tracks.

Autumn 2009, Dirge starts the recording of its new album.

Winter 2010, the bands signs a new deal with the Switzerland-based label Division Records . The fifth record Elysian Magnetic Fields is released for the beginning in April 2011.

When the curiously monikered And So I Watch You From Afar dropped their debut record on an unsuspecting rock world they more than blew the doors off the poor little Mini Cooper, they blew it to kingdom come...and then some. You see what this band did with their self-titled debut was to release a post-rock album that was a hardcore punk album at the same time. Tracks like the blistering 'Set Guitars to kill' saw post-rock played at hardcore intensity as if that was the way the genre was born to be. Refreshing in its unique approach to what is all too often a stale genre these days, 'And So I Watch You From Afar' was rightly lavished with lashings of critical praise upon its release back in 2009. Now the band has responded to the challenge of providing a suitably monolithic second album in typically confident fashion.

'Gangs', it will no doubt disappoint some to say, is not quite ‘part 2’ to their debut record. There is an undoubted progression that has been made here. Whilst the likes of 'BEAUTIFULUNIVERSEMASTERCHAMPION' and the stunningly mental 'Search:Party:Animal' are clearly cut from the same cloth as the most up-tempo moments from their debut, the majority of the material on 'Gangs' is a little more restrained but still with more than enough ferocity to whip audiences into a wild frenzy wherever the band choose to play.

Although some moments fail to work quite as one would like, especially the somewhat underwhelming 'Think:Breathe:Destroy', this is pretty accomplished stuff. What the band have done here is to subtly move their material across into a slightly more expansive realm without losing their unique nature of being a post-rock band that is more focused on the ‘rock’ than the ‘post’. They have also added a slightly more pronounced math rock element as well that is similar to the likes of Adebisi Shank. Even on the twelve minute two-parter that is 'Homes', And So I Watch You From Afar stay far away from the pretentiousness that many instrumental bands are accused of. Not for them an over reliance on the peaks and the troughs, but instead a pleasing ability to blend riffs that are desperate to bust your front teeth in and soundscapes that make you feel like it’s a good time to go out and have a beer...or six.

See, while most post-rock bands are all about the beautiful and the melancholic, And So I Watch You From Afar are about having a bloody good time and they more than provide a good time with this record. It is not perfect but, unless you are deaf or don’t like anything that’s loud and kicking, it is destined to become one of your favorite records of 2011. From the breakneck pace of 'BEAUTIFULUNIVERSEMASTERCHAMPION' through the buoyant anthem that is highlight '7 Billion People all Alive at Once' to the samba outro to closer 'Lifeproof', 'Gangs' is a concoction of great joy distilled into instrumental riff-based rock goodness. You have to love them, you just have to. Surely it is just too much effort not to. - stereoboard.com

Sioum is an instrumental/progressive/post-rock/post-metal trio(guitar, keyboard, drums) from Chicago, IL. The band often draws inspiration from dreams, movies, video games, and most frequently, emotion itself. Post-metal/rock, as well as progressive influence are often noted, although occasionally, many broad (and unusual) influences, such as classical and chip-tune, can be heard.

Sioum’s recent full-length, I Am Mortal, But Was Fiend, was self recorded, mixed, and produced in their basement over a span of 8 months, with help of Endless Field Studio front-man Paul Petrosyan. The album consists of three songs split into movements, like classical music, with artwork shadowing the untold stories of the music. It was released on July 16, 2010.

Alongside local live shows, the band has already begun writing new material, and are currently organizing tours for the US.
