The Inquisition: 079.Throane (Dehn Sora)

1. How did you came up with the name of the band?

It is a combination of the words « Throne » and « Throat ». Inspired by a phrase that says, Throat is the Throne of every knots. After everything was set and ready to be released, a close friend of mine told me it means « a Tear », in a Flemish dialect. Made sense afterwards.

2. Do you have a standard procedure of creating a song? Do you just jam around or is there a main riff and the track is build up on it?

I don't have any technique, maybe just more rituals. I let things come, try not to think a lot in the first place. Searching, seeking, failing. But as for Throane, everything came very naturally, I accepted what came, with it's mistakes. Keeping what made sense, without any big thinking. If I felt, I kept. I had to be strong at this time. I forged an armor around me while playing.

3. What are your influences and what kind of music do you hear when you are at home?

Influences are so vast. And I don't really feel that some bands strictly influence me anymore. It is cliché, but life in general is the source. A way to not live that constant hell, to build a place where we can get rid of what scratches us everyday. What I listen at home depends on what I do. If I work on some corporate things, I mostly listen for some documentaries. Having voices around helps concentrate. If I work on personal things, I try to find the best soundtrack in the opposite vibe of what I feel. If I am nervous, I'd go for ambient. If I'm OK but need energy, I'd go for something speed. So, can't really name drop. But lately, to name a few : Nothing, Associal Club, Emma Ruth Rundle, 16 Horsepower, Urfaust.

4. Which is the one album you can't live without?

It moves depending on periods. Lately, it has been Oranssi Pazuzu « Värähtelijä »

5. What's the first record you've ever bought?

Think it was Deicide « Once Upon the Cross », when I really asked for my parents to buy me a record.

6. Name a band that you would like to share the stage or tour with?

Too many, but a one that is special in my heart might be Magma. But I feel that they will have no interest in playing with me. What kind of torch can I give to them ? And secretly hope for a Blut aus Nord secret show that I can be part of.

7. Did the internet and specially the blogs helped to spread your music around the world? Name a place (country) that you were surprised to know your music has reached to?

Internet is definitively a good tool, it helped communication. I still like paper press, but the power turned in the hand of internet this past decade. So it's a good tool to work with. I was surprised to have feedback from Japan, and South America. Realizing what you've done, coming from your head, can reach people that oceans separate each other, is always rewarding, and surprising.

8. Do you support the idea of bandcamp where fans can decide the price or services like spotify?

Pretty much, I'm just always confused in quantifying how much I should put on a record. If it's a good way for bands to get support, to make work again,I'm in.

9. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

As everything can fall apart at any moment, I don't wanna think about this. I do my best everyday, so I'll be probably still trying, still fighting.

10. Is the artwork of an album important nowadays in the digital era?

More than important, it is, in my opinion, part of the whole thing. Even if physical releases sales are falling, I think the music scenes I evolve in, are still pretty attached to the matter, of not having only mp3s. And even if discs will disappear, I will still think artwork is 50% of the work. To build a proper story, a complete shell.

11. What is you favorite album cover?

Damn, too many to be mentioned. But, again, lately, I'd say Savages « Adore Life »

12. It seems that a lot of people are turning on vinyl again. Why do you think that is and which is your preferable media format?

I'd say vinyl is my favorite, for the ritual it places. You have to be focus. You have to change side. It is personal investment in the music you're listening.

13. What's the most vivid story or moment as an artist?

I hope it didn't happened yet.
